Foliage Contests

KidsZone: Foliage Drawing Contest

Congratulations to McKenna of New Hampshire, our contest winner.

Contest judge and art critic Edgar Allen Beem says, "I enjoyed the way the painting played off the colors of autumn light against the rather realistic rusty colors of the foliage itself. Foliage season isn't necessarily all about the leaves, it's about the atmosphere that surrounds them."

To celebrate fall and KidsZone, Yankee Magazine will host a foliage drawing contest for children ages 13 and under again next year. To enter the contest, submit your original drawing of a fall scene.

Artwork will be judged by Yankee's art critic and blogger, Ed Beem, who will choose the best picture of fall's bright colors based on artistic originality, technique, and color selection. Above all, he wants to be surprised and delighted, as he is every year by New England's fall foliage display.

The winning picture will be posted online in KidsZone with the winner's first name, age, and state. The winner also gets a great prize: a tote bag filled with the following goodies: a Weather Watcher's 2009 Calendar, The Old Farmer's Almanac Calendar, an Almanac for Kids Nalgene bottle, a mini garden toolset, a Backyard Safari bug scope, a Coleman Firefly lantern, and The Old Farmer's Almanac for Kids: Volume 2, which covers topics such as astronomy, nature, farming, gardening, history, and weather. The informative and amusing stories, featuring hundreds of wacky and fascinating facts, will appeal to kids of all ages.

Mail entries by November 15, 2009, to: Yankee Foliage Drawing Contest, Yankee Magazine, 1121 Main St, Dublin, NH 03444. Please include your name, age, mailing address, e-mail, phone number, and parent's or legal guardian's signature for permission to enter.
