Peak report:
Oct 2nd (Friday) I traveled up route 16 from I-95 and north of Conway, I found peak in the White Mountains on route 16 from the foot of Mount Washington (pictures will be forthcoming) almost all the way up route 16 to Rangeley Lake Maine. Exception was Gorham which may have had a freeze and their colors were muted.
Also check the Facebook fan page since several folks on there are making daily entries on where they are finding color in their areas. We have someone in most every state but I could use a CT resident to go out and post what they are seeing.
Tuesday's trip report Cont:
Monday night I stayed at the Sunset Hill House in Sugar Hill and Nancy and Lon made me feel right at home. It wasn't, just because I have a link to Yankee; either. While I stood there Nancy upgraded a woman checking in, stating that if a better room is available and not going to be used that night then she wants to make their stay to be the best it can be.
The next morning I awoke to the sun rising over the mountains and it was the most dramatic vista I had seen in a while. I had breakfast (which was far more than I should have eaten) and I hit the road.
I drove down the back roads and then headed down route 18 to stopped at Cannon Mountain and while (at that time) it wasn't peak, I decided to ride the Tram up to the top.
The clouds were swirling around the top and every once in a while you could see through a hole to the valley below.
I spent much of the day driving around the area of Sugar Hill and then in the afternoon headed over 302 to route 5 and Vermont. The clouds had come in as forecast (I hate it when the weatherman is right) and I decided to drop in at Yankee in Dublin.
I came in from the west on route 101 and the low lying areas were very colorful (remember this is far south for any significant color) but Howe's Reservoir was at peak for the hills and swamp maples... It just shows that you never know when a splash of color will show up.
This ends my early week trip so make sure you get out there and enjoy the fall. We only have it for a short time so go make some memories!

Jeff....I love the first shot with the clouds. That's the point I was trying to get across in facebook about getting up early. Opportunities like that are all gone by the time most people get up...

Yeah I know and that's why I pointed out that they can also get out and hit the late afternoon sun since it's warmer and is very nice in it's own right... If they all stay in bed then I'll have the place to myself... :-)
