Tech Tuesday for Fall Foliage in New England
Going wireless is painless
by Jeff "Foliage" Folger
Greetings foliage seekers!
Tech Tuesday report
Check out the map on the Yankee website and it is rapidly getting some red areas in north central Vermont and north western Maine. I'm heading up today to check out a report of peak color in Littleton NH. I'm hitting the road out of Salem around 4AM!!! Anyone want to join me?
Going wireless in Vermont.
If you are on route 89 in Vermont you might want to bring your laptop along. At the following rest stops on route 89 you can stop and stretch your legs and check for the current foliage updates on Yankeefoliage.com!!! (Of course)
The following rest stops have wireless:
Alburgh, Derby line, Fair Haven, Guilford, Hartford North, Hartford South, Highgate, Lyndonville, Randolph North, Randolph South, Sharon North, Sharon South, Williston North, and Williston South.
The process is relatively simple. First you have to have a laptop that has wireless capability.
Next you pull into the parking lot of one of the aforementioned rest areas. (Don't try to log on as you race by at 80 mph) you won't be in range long enough. :-)
You have your laptop search for new networks and it should find the rest stop network, click connect and answer any questions that your lap top needs.
Lastly open a web browser and don't be alarmed if a different page opens up rather than your normal default page. You usually have to swear to abide to their user rules and then you can surf the web at pretty good speeds.
So, if you need a quick internet email fix or just to post your foliage pictures so your friends can be jealous, you should be able to take care of most internet needs.
Of course, if you don't know what I said in the preceding sections then please go get your grandkids to explain it to you and tell them to use lots of pictures. :-)
