In my opinion this is the best shot of the three but feel free to disagree.

Greetings Foliage Peepers!

Halloween is tomorrow and we still have so much to do! So, that said, I'll keep today's post short and sweet.

Narrowing your focus and composing your shots

Last week I posted a couple shots of a church in Brooklyn CT (seen at right). The main thing that this church had going for it was that it had a very late giant maple standing next to it that was 80% in color. The rest of the trees surrounding it were bare already.

In the second shot I zoomed in and placed more emphasis on the steeple architecture, shared with the amazing leaves of the maple. I will often zoom in photographing different parts of a building to see what resonates with my inner artist. We all saw that by walking to a nearly bare tree on the other side of the same church I achieved a much better (IMHO) picture! (Explore the scene!)

In this next shot, Mike and I were driving through Willimantic and he and I stopped at the Court House. The maples at the front of the building were in great color but the branches that were near to the copper sheeted steeple were bare. What caught my attention was a smaller tree that had very nice color on the corner of the building.

By including this tree in to the shot I was able to create an interesting juxtaposition of architecture and colorful leaves. Then it's just a matter of deciding which angle (horizontal or portrait) that I like the best.

Let me know what you think, especially if you disagree! I?m always ready to learn from someone else's viewpoint (mine is not always the best one!)

The guesses are starting to come in for my foliage forum contest (Click here to go direct). Remember the cutoff is on Halloween evening (Friday night) at midnight (The witching hour!)

I would love to hear from you. You can leave a comment here (in the blog) or drop me a note over in the foliage forum.
