Greetings Foliage Peepers!

I've often enough told you that when you go in search of foliage (peak or otherwise), you need to have alternatives planned for. This trip to find peak in CT was a bust but I found some of that rich history that you hear tell of in New England. Also I'm always amazed by how creative some people are in their businesses and you can read about that below.

Contest for guessing how many miles I traveled this fall season...

I can't believe everyone is waiting until the last minute to put their guesses up in my foliage forum contest (Click here to go direct). I hope everyone jumps in before the cutoff on Halloween evening at midnight (The witching hour!)

Battle of Frog Pond

I went on a day long drive through CT last week and while I didn't find peak foliage on this trip I did get to see some interesting things during this exploration of Connecticut. You would be amazed by the things I find on these little explorations and Mike who was my navigator this day took us through Willimantic CT.

Mike told me of the battle of frog pond and I'm not going to tell you the whole story but it happened back in 1754 and one evening the townsfolk were awakened by a horrendous noise outside their homes and since it was during the French and Indian war they assumed an Indian uprising.

What they found was... Well I'm going to let you read the rest over on Wikipedia at this link Battle of Frog Pond.

Pumpkintown USA

As we drove along in East Hampton CT we came upon Pumpkin Town USA and I had to stop. There were two women there with their kids checking out the pumpkins and I asked to photograph them as the kids looked over this year's crop. Then Mike and I wandered around the grounds looking at some great pumpkin people. This is a great location to bring the kids and they can pose with the pumpkin bank robbers or be in the pumpkin marriage party or play games. There's much for them to see and do and definitely a worthwhile afternoon for small children. I would love to hear from you as to whether you and you can leave a comment here or drop me a note over in the foliage forum.
