Greetings Foliage Peepers!

Our forum members in the field are saying: finding peak is anything but easy! Jimmy says: "Lots of color in Stowe but all very muted. I ran into a guy from Maine who said the color there is way better. He said where he has been in VT has also been dull. He was about to head back to Maine as well".

And Mary Jo says: "Sugar Hill was spotty but nice, but they have a meeting house there and it was gorgeous! And worth the price of the airplane ticket. Owl Head was past peak and Peacham is still good with tons of people running around with cameras". Not necessarily a good thing!

As far as what I have to say...

Elusive peak color stymies foliage seekers

I've been getting emails from a few forum members saying that the map says peak color and as they drive through the area they aren't seeing peak or at least not the vibrant colors they were expecting.

This prompted me to take another spin on Tuesday through the northern. New Hampshire and the White mountains and Conway, over to Lincoln and then back home again.. Just to note! I?m at 2161 miles this foliage season trying to get a handle on where peak is and so far finding peak is tough!

If you travel into the White Mountains.

First: route 16 has at least two overpasses that are under construction (exit 12 is one of them) so the waiting time this weekend to get into the White Mountains that way will be torture.

Instead I would think about going up 93 into the lake region and cut in there or go all the way up to 302 above Franconia and come in from that way.

Better yet head over into the Monadnock region. But that will be in my next post.

Check out the pictures that I took in the White Mountains this week and see if you think it's worth a drive? If you need more of a description let me know.

I would love to hear from you as to whether you and you can leave a comment here or drop me a note over in the foliage forum.
