New Salem MA on the Columbus day weekend. Having a strong subject with the color makes the picture more interesting...

When you shoot a colorful tree by itself just because it's pretty then you have a pretty tree but not something that friends want to spend time looking at...

When you add other elements into your picture such as a dramatic sky it gives your pictures a depth that draws your viewers attention in and makes them explore the picture.

Greetings Foliage seekers!

I've made a few forays along route 1A this week and the Wenham/Hamilton area has been looking real nice up to Ipswich. I have seen many trees still in full color and with the stone walls covered in Virgina creeper and the orange maples above you should be able to get some really nice pictures.

Another reason I like this area is that it has horse farms giving you and me a nice subject to photograph in addition to the stately maple tree but when you add a beautiful horse standing in the foreground then you turn an average picture into something special.

I'm hearing back in the forum that many of you had wonderful New England trips! I hope the rest of you will stop into the forum and say hello and tell what makes Fall special for you. You don't have to say anything but it's always so wonderful when a conversation starts and everybody weighs in with their opinion, thoughts and ideas.

Also it's really special when the conversations continue into the short days of winter (all too soon here). So drop in and say hi and if you haven't made a guess at how many miles you think I'll drive this season then stop in. (click this link to go direct)

I'm heading out in a few minutes for a trip through CT and RI (The weather is finally permitting a nice all day drive and I'll do my best to get you the results asap! I'll be posting today on twitter so Follow me on your phone or computer with twitter updates I would love to hear from you as to whether you and you can leave a comment here or drop me a note over in the foliage forum.

Well that last photo was taken up in the area of Sugar hill NH but I didn't write it down so I don't remember where exactly.. In fact this was shot out of my windshield as I was coming down the road and I wasn't able pull over to stop. The fact that it came out as well as it did is a testimony to a really good camera and dumb luck... All of which I'll take... :-) Jeff Foliage
